Just a short note to let you know that Avis have extended the Fiat 500 trial due to popular demand and positive customer feedback. You can now rent this fantastic little car up to the end of March 2009.
The Fiat 500 has just won BusinessCar magazine’s City Car of the Year Award. This prize – decided by the publication’s readers – follows other accolades for the 500, including Car of the Year 2008, Auto Express’ Best City Car 2008 and Fifth Gear’s Car of the Year. And if this great car couldn’t get any better, Fiat will be showing off their convertible version at the Geneva Motor Show in March!
Have you tried one yet? Why not let us know if you liked it? If you haven’t experienced the Fiat 500, visit the Avis website for details of how to book your drive today.

We Try Harder
Who are you kidding, your opening hours are rubbish, your prices are a lot more expensive than Europcar and National, and your choice of cars is weak to say the least. I am really surprised that you get any business at all.
I have just wasted ten minutes of my life checking out your web site to book a car.
Hi Anthony,
I’m disappointed that you are not happy with our service and am interested to hear more about why Avis could not provide you with what you needed. If you like, you can contact me at comments@avis.co.uk to discuss this further.
Regards,
Stephen
It’s all anecdotal, but Avis are the best option for me personally around 75% of the time.
Looking today at a hire I need to make, Avis are cheapest for one level of car, and second cheapest for a lower level – there’s not much in it on the first car, but more than I’d expect on the second.
Can you extend this deadline further? We’re going on honeymoon in May/June to Scotland and would like to hire specifically a Fiat 500 or Smart 42
Hi Pab,
We would love to but we’re at the mercy of the manufacturer. However, keep watching as the deadline has been extended once and you never know, it might be extended again.
Stephen
We rented a Fiat 500 over the weekend to drive from London to Kent, and it broke down! Avis breakdown service is terrible – since there were no open branches near us, they made us get towed all the way to Gatwick Airport (2+ hrs away) to get a replacement (which we didn’t want anyway). Spent the whole weekend sorting out a broken down car. What a waste of time. AND, Avis said they have to do an “investigation” to see if we can be compensated at all… who knows how long that’s going to take!
Hi Chris,
I’m really sorry to hear about your experience. Despite our best efforts, cars do break down and when this happens, we always try to either send the customer on their way or put them into a new car as soon as possible. However, as you can appreciate, this can be difficult outside of normal working hours.
Can you send me the details of your hire to comments@avis.co.uk and I will chase this matter up with customer services for you.
Regards,
Stephen
Hi
please can you tell me what the situation is on the FIAT 500 – the website says that Mayfair offers the select series but I cannot find a weekend (have gone through multiple months trying) when the 500 is available.
If it isn’t available you should pull it from the website, to prevent others being as frustrated as I was!
Hi Mark, the Fiat 500 available in Mayfair. I’m just checking this with our Pricing team and hopefully this will be resolved soon.
Rob
Hi Mark, the Fiat 500 is not available over the bank holiday weekend but you should find it is available again for future weekends.
Thank you for bringing this to our attention!
Rob
Thanks Rob – your prompt action has meant you got 4 bookings from me!
Price for the weekend super competitive – but 3 days more than double the 2 day rate which was odd.
No worries, Mark. Glad I could help! Looks like there might be another pricing glitch though. I’ll send through to the pricing team to review again!
Rob
Hi Rob
Had fun with the 500 last weekend – bouncy!
However – Mayfair were less than ecstatic at the idea of guaranteeing the Fiat 500 on any weekend in June (the tax on the 2 Fiat 500s ran out on May31st!).
They were trying really really hard to upgrade me – which didn’t work as the FIAT was my car of choice!
So hopefully it will all still work tomorrow which is the weekend I actually wanted in the first place, although I am now rather nervous that the car won’t still be on the fleet by then.
FYI – 2 days was £54 and 3 days £124 – so pricing definitely odd – hopefully the £124 is the incorrect one…
Thanks for the feedback, Mark. There has been a shortage of Fiat 500s at the moment as we’re at a time where we’ve got quite a few coming off fleet while we are waiting for more to come on! However, I’ve spoken to my colleague who manages Select Series and she has worked to ensure you will get your 500 this weekend!
As for the pricing, I’ve checked with the pricing team and it is the £54 that was incorrect. This has been adjusted now (so well done to anyone who booked before the adjustment!).
Have a great weekend!
Rob
I’ve been hiring Avis cars in the ’small’ category for years and the only time I’ve been let down was earlier this year when I was allocated a Fiat 500. This model is clearly not equivalent to the other cars advertised in that group: Clio, Fiesta, 206. It’s smaller and it’s a ‘fun’ car. Neither of which are suitable for my particular purpose. Avis were unhelpful. No other cars in the group were available when I arrived to pick up the vehicle and Avis refused to upgrade me. I was left with a bright red car with ‘go faster livery’ access to which was difficult for my 3 elderly passengers. By all means have the Fiat 500 in the fleet – clearly it appeals to some people – but place it in a separate group from the Fiesta, Clio etc. I’m informed that next time I book a ’small’ category car Avis can’t guarantee I won’t get a Fiat 500. (This despite the fact that there are 3 competing car hire desks at the airport I hire from and I’m a long term regular customer. Disappointing.)
Hi Linda, I am very sorry to read about your experience. The Fiat 500 is not in the “Small” category. It is part of our Select Series fleet and part of a category on it’s own.
Would you be able to email me with your rental agreement number at comments@avis.co.uk so we can take a look at what happened in this instance?
Rob
hi, can I still hire a fiat 500? am thinking of buying one and hoping for an extended “test drive” august bank holiday weekend.
Hi Jane, unfortunately the Fiat 500 is currently not available on our UK rental fleet. It would be great to see this iconic car again on our fleet in the future but it seems unlikely that would see it again before the August bank holiday.
Rob
I really want to hire a Fiat 500 for a weekend in October (from your Gatwick Airport branch) and I was wondering if there is any chance that it will once again be available for hire by then?
Hi Catherine,
We are in talks with Fiat but I’m afraid we have not yet confirmed a date to get the 500 back on fleet.
We will be sure to let you all know via this blog when they are back on.
If you have any other questions please let me know.
Jane
are the 500’s back in London?
Hi Hendrik
Although we would love to be able to state otherwise we unfortunately we do not have Fiat 500’s on our fleet at the present time.
Jane
PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE tell me I can hire a Fiat 500 from you?
Hi Maria,
Thanks for your comment.
I am afraid that we do not have the Fiat 500 on our fleet any more.
If we do get them back on fleet we will update all our customers via our website and the this blog.
