Audi A5 CoupeIt’s been a real privilege to have Audis on our fleet this year. The amount of comments and questions we received when we wrote about introducing the A4 and A6 to the Select Series confirms its popularity.

So it is with great pleasure that I announce the introduction of the Audi A5 Coupe to our Avis Prestige range. I’m sure you’ll agree from the picture, it is a great looking beast (and even better in the “flesh”). Under the bonnet is a 3.0 litre V6 turbodiesel engine and the interior is, well, typically Audi. As ‘What Car?’ put it: “Audi is a byword for interior trim quality”. And the bottom line from the same respected car reviewer: “The A5’s engines are terrific, and the car has the comfort, quality and class to maintain Audi’s reputation”.

So what do you think of the Audi A5? Have you had a chance to try it? And to continue our debate from our last post about Avis Prestige, what other cars would you like to see added to the fleet?

  1. Hello, I have just been looking at renting an A4 from the prestige collection, but the price seemed a little high for one week rental for such a car.
Then I looked at your select series cars, and I see you offer the same car there but for a third of the price!!!
The price on the prestige collection was £684.25 while the price for the A4 on the select series was £267.00.
Although it does not say what engine the A4 comes with in the prestige collection just that is an Automatic like the one I looked at in the select series.
Are they the same engine? Or does the prestige collection model come with a much larger engine?
Otherwise I find it odd there is such a huge price gap.
    Can you explain?

  2. This is something I have raised before here on the blog.
It’s not just the A4, but also other cars that Avis have both on the Prestige fleet and on the Select series, like the A6 or the Merc E and C class, they all seem to cost at least 2-3 times as much if booked through Prestige.
Only benefit with Prestige is the flexibility as far as collection and drop off, but that is it.
I think it is only the real prestige cars, or cars that Avis only have on the Prestige fleet that are worth booking through Prestige, but anything they have on the normal fleet you will be better off booking there.
The reason you cannot see what Engine or Spec the A4 is on the Prestige website is they simply do not mention this with any of their cars, so it might be a good idea for someone at Avis reading this to perhaps do something about that, and make sure that when someone is spending a lot of money to book a prestige car they know exactly what they are getting…

    Regards
    Robert

  3. The main reason is that the Prestige and standard Avis fleet are run separately and are therefore priced separately according to the supply available within each fleet. However, as Robert points out the type of cars and the pricing policies between the two fleets are perhaps not as joined up as they should be! My colleague from Avis Prestige is coming into our office next week so I will discuss it with him then. In the meantime I would recommend booking the cheaper Select Series price!

  4. Rob,
Just don’t increase the prices of the Select to bring them closer to Prestige….
Lower Prestige prices to bring them closer to select…

Perhaps you could also discuss with your colleague the fact that they do not mention any details on the Prestige website about the cat spec, engine etc…
Come on even on the normal Avis website there is more detail!!!

    Regards,
    Robert

  5. Don’t worry Robert, there are no plans of this nature!

Great feedback about the Prestige website. I will definitely pass this on. The team at Prestige are a very passionate bunch and I’m sure they will be very receptive to all of this feedback.

  6. A comment is made with regard to the flexibility of Prestige re:delivery and drop off> My experience is the opposite- when I tried to book a Range Rover for Xmas/NYear I was not allowed to have a different drop off airport to the collection one (the prestige web site does indicate such flexibility is allowed!). As a result I used one of the competitors who did allow such.

  7. Thank you for the feedback Andrew. Avis Prestige generally provides quotations for one-way rentals. However, in periods of high demand sometimes this is not possible, particularly if the vehicle is already booked to be rented out by a customer at the source location the day after it is due to be returned. This should have been properly explained to you when you made your booking and I have forwarded your feedback on to the Avis Prestige team.

  8. Hi
Looking to book a prestige car for the next couple of weeks and we’ve seen your prestige site. But every single car at every single location is on request all year round? is there a technical hiccup here or are they genuine bookings. We have seen an ASTON MARTIN and Manchester is ideal for us but the on request status is putting us off!

  9. Aston Martin, good choice! At the moment, due to limited availability and because you are guaranteeing a make/model, we need to check the availability of that car before confirm the booking. It is all very genuine though, it just means the booking will not be confirmed straight away. However, the Avis Prestige team will get back to you within 24 hours to confirm the booking. Alternatively, if you call the reservation number they will be able to confirm there and then (although you’ll lose the online discount).

Let me know if you have any more questions or thoughts on this.

  11. Hi,

What spec is the Audi A5 cabriolet on the prestige selection?

Bit of a silly question but what colours are the A5s generally?

    Thanks for your help

    James
