Rob and I have been debating which of Avis’s Prestige cars we’d most like to ‘borrow’ (with a few suggestions from other people in the office too!). He’s gone for the Aston Martin V8 Vantage. My personal favourite is the Jaguar XK Cabriolet.
With cars like the Audi TT Coupe, Range Rover Sport and Mercedes SLK 200, the Prestige range is designed for those special occasions, important business engagements, or if you just want a little luxury! A full list of the models available is on the Avis Prestige website.
Although our cars are based at Manchester, central London and London Heathrow and Gatwick Airports, there’s a delivery and collection service to pretty much anywhere in Great Britain. A question was recently posted about whether Prestige cars are available across Europe and I am pleased to say that in some countries they are (although they may be called something different).
If you are interested in renting a Prestige car in Europe then you might like to know that Avis France is currently offering a 10% discount on the Mercedes SLK. In Germany, Avis recently launched its Prestige service with several hundred ‘fun cars’, including the new Porsche Cayman and Mini Cooper Cabriolet. I’ve heard on the grapevine that there was a waiting list to rent the new Porsche 911.
We’re aware that this information is not yet available on our website and I would suggest you contact our call centre on 0844 581 0147 to find out more.
Going back to our initial debate, are you on side with myself or Rob, or is there another car you would like to ‘borrow’ – even if it isn’t part of Prestige? (And I’m not trying to influence you with a picture of the XK at the top of the post, honest!).

The Aston wins hands down the Jag is just a copy Of a Aston
I would love to cruise round in an aston martin but wot would this cost per day?????
Hello Joanne,
We share the same dream! I’ve seen the new DB9 Volante on our London Heathrow parking a few weeks ago and it looks terrific.
To answer your question, the best is that you have a check on Avis Prestige website http://www.avisprestige.com or contact them on 020 7591 0444.

Sorry for the late entry on this conversation. I was on hols last week and I’ve just been reviewing some of the comments that were posted while I was away. Completely agree with you Antony! In fact I’m sure I read somewhere that the XK was designed by the same person who designed the Aston Martin. Maybe Xavier knows? They are both owned by Ford I know that much… although for how much longer, who knows!
I chuckled at Xave’s comment about sharing the same dream. Unfortunately working for Avis does not mean you get freebie drives on the Prestige cars!
My dilemma would be slightly different – the V8 or the DB9?
but this does not compare to either of the Aston’s.
Oh, I have no doubt I would enjoy driving the Jag around
Think I’m swaying toward the V8 at present – it’s just so “Bond”. And a bargain at only £445 a day. Now – to persuade my boss…….
Ha – good luck with your boss! Looks like the Aston Martin wins. Sorry Xavier. Anyone want to throw another challenger into the ring?
I would say Mr XK is not as much cooler as Mr Martin, definitely. Aston sounds…mmmm, delicious. wouldn’t be great to commute by Aston, especially on Monday morning, just to make a big smile when you entering your office for the beginning of the week?
It would. But I wouldn’t deny if I could cruise both of them. Some day we will start to rent such (hopefully), as far now Mini is red hot since it’s been launched in Avis Poland. Regards
I am trying to book a rental for Boston in August through the UK website (much better rates than via the US website) but only 1 Boston downtown location is offered, and it is is not the location I want (this is nothing to do with opening hours). It is as though the UK system simply has not been told about the existence of other locations !
Any thoughts / advice ?
It’s hard to comment on the difficulty you are experiencing without knowing the detail . I’d suggest you contact the specialist reservations team on
0844 581 0147 with your specific requirements and see what they say.
You state above that Avis France is currently offering a 10% discount on the Mercedes SLK, I find that rather strange, as I am presently trying to hire a Peugeot 307 cabriolet and they are having trouble even to provide this little run about.
Hi
I have for many months been hiring cars from Avis UK, always in the Mercedes class. Avis suggested thatI apply for the Avis preferred card, which i did, but I cannot see any benefits from having this card, I do note there is no more preferrential service than customers who do not have this card. There is no field in your internet booking system to include the Avis preferred card number, perhaps you can let me know the beefits of this membership. Thank you
Hi Les, the Mercedes SLK is being discounted in France because they are not selling out enough at the moment! The Peugeot 307 cabriolet on the otherhand is because we have finally got some nice weather. One thing I would say about the 307 cabriolet is that, if you are looking to rent them in the UK, they are only available at the following airports: Heathrow, Gatwick, Stansted, Birmingham, Manchester, Edinburgh, Glasgow. They are also available at our Mayfair location in central London. But, as I say, you might need to book far in advance as the number of cars available will be limited while the sun is out.
With regards to Avis Preferred, the primary benefit is speed of service and you will benefit most from this at our busy airport locations. As an Avis Preferred member your paperwork should be already prepared when you go to pick up your car which will save you a lot of time at the desk. Most airports will have a dedicated Avis Preferred desk so Preferred members can get served as a priority. Some airport locations, such as Heathrow airport, offer the facility to bypass the desk altogether! You simply look at what bay your car is parked in on the Avis Preferred message board and then get in the car and go. There are also usually dedicated Avis Preferred parking bays so that Preferred members can pick up their car at the most convenient location.
We see Avis Preferred as a very important product that aims to provide increased speed and convenience for our customers. I would love to hear any ideas you might have about how we can enhance the programme (although please be advised that some things are easier to implement than others!)
We don’t get those wonderful options of the DB9 or Porsche in Australia.Consider yourself lucky all we get are crappy saabs.Avis you had better step up to the plate in Australia specially in Melbourne!
Hello Martin,
Then you need to come and visit us, here in the UK and rent with Avis!
I will pass your comments to our Australian team.

I cannot find info on Avis prestige car hire for Germany?
Well, I’m not sure if you can speak German but if you click on this link to the Avis.de website, http://www.avis.de/FahrzeugeundServices/Fahrzeuge/FunCars, you’ll be able to see what cars are available. To find out more information and to make a booking I would suggest calling our reservation centre on 08445 81 81 81. There are plans to make these “special” fleets bookable on avis.co.uk some time in 2008.
Does the insurance on an Audi TT work just like a regular car where you can pay per day to bring the excess down. If so what it the Excess for the TT coupe, and what is the cost per day to bring it down and the price it comes down to. if not how does it work.
Thanks
Hi Gareth,
The excess on the Audi TT is £1,500. You can reduce the excess to £750 for £15 per day.

How about the Maserati Granturismo?

Hi Gershome, Avis Prestige currently has sites in Central London, London Heathrow Airport and Central Manchester but unfortunately there are no plans to open a branch in Birmingham. We can, however, provide a quotation for delivery & collection to other locations throughout the UK. A delivery service may require a minimum hire period of between 4 to 7 days duration though. For more information please visit http://www.avisprestige.com or call the dedicated reservations team on 020 7591 0444.

Like ‘em both but the Aston Martin has the edge for uniqueness and cool factor which is why they sell so many model cars
